Genica, my niece living in Australia, is never been happier now that there is another member of their family. Last week a baby lovebird suddenly showed in their doorstep looking for a shelter. Her dad thought that maybe the bird has lost his track or has lost his family so they have decided to keep the bird so that proper care and attention can be given to him. Bumper was the name they gave him because he always bumps on walls and sliding doors. At first, Bumper was kinda uncomfortable on his new home specially that there are other two lovebirds (Harry and Cleo) living in there. Harry and Cleo are Peached-Faced Lovebirds while Bumper's color has a blue-green mask.

Bumper making himself comfortable with Harry and Cleo, looks very delighted to know that they can roam free inside the house :).

Uh oh! Looks like Harry is in a bad mood today. Take it easy Bumper..

Love birds are very sweet pets aren't they. Peach-faced love birds are very lovely. My niece Genica is always excited to play with their pet love birds, Cleo and Harry. Her dad send me this picture of her a few weeks ago. I saw this frowning picture of her and I was confused about why would her dad send me this frowning picture. Of course I didn't mind the picture.

Then, I was actually cleaning my hard drive that I come across Genica's photo again. And there I finally noticed. Cleo, their pet Peach-faced Love Bird, is actually on Genica's back. Haha! I called her dad and talked about that photo. He said Genica is kinda scared that time because Cleo is in her back. Not scared that Cleo might bite her, but scared that the bird will get hurt or stumble if she make sudden movements. What a sweet girl :)

Sorry I was quite busy those last few days/weeks. Unfortunately, I didn't have much time to upload something here in my blog. Then in the middle of my busy, crazy life, a blessing came to me. Chloe and Cirk, my pet hamsters just got their first babies. Yeeeeehaaaaaaa! Actually, I was so relieved after many weeks of so called "busy-ness", suddenly, I saw these little angels and I begin to breathe my life out. They were 5 healthy little pups. I didn't know that Chloe is actually pregnant. So I was really shocked and mesmerized when I saw them. The pups are about 2 weeks old now. I will move them to their new home next week. It is a blessing indeed :)

Gianine and Genica were so thrilled with their new pet at school. These cute pets belonging to the species of rodents can be a good pet when trained in an early age. Guinea Pigs are usually a good family pet. With proper care and handling, they are gentle pets. They can be nervous at first but rarely bites. They are social animals and active both day and night.

Guinea Pigs are approximately 9-10 inches long and can weight up to 2-3 pounds. They have a rounded stout body with no visible tail. Guinea Pigs has many variety of breeds. The most common breeds are Abyssinian (have short coat with swirls called "rosettes"), American (with short smooth coat) and Peruvian Guinea Pigs (long haired variety).

How To Calm Your Pet When It Storms

Does your pet always seems to be scared when if ever thunder rolls or if there is a storm? Here are some tips that you can do if these incident happen:

Keep your pet safe. Fear of storms may be a cause of certain situations that your pet was left alone or outside while it is storming. Never ever leave your pet out in a storm.

Cuddle your pet. Cuddling your pet will surely bring relief.

Start Early. Helping your pet react well to storms early will help them to become more independent and less scared as they grow.

Distract your pet. Play with your pet or distract him so that he will less likely to focus on the storm.

Keep your pet inside the room or crate. If your pet is so frantic that he tries to escape or if he become destructive, keep him on confined space if that calms him.

Never ever punish a scared pet.

Play background music. This will help to distract your pet.

Finally if all these won't work, talk to your vet about medication.

I was so heartbroken when my friend called me last Saturday to deliver the news. I couldn't believe it when she says that our precious Maggie is now gone. I can feel the grief on my best friends voice as she tells me the whole story. Nobody ever though that that terrible thing will happen. Friday morning she is still joyful, actively playing with her mommy and their other puppies. But when evening came, she suddenly felt so weak and not moving at all. They rushed her to the animal hospital. The vet did all they can but they couldn't point out an exact diagnosis because it all happened so fast. Around 1:30 am Saturday morning, Maggie was gone.

We couldn't believe it. Maggie is always a jolly and active dog. They are looking on all the possible causes of her death. Maybe it is because of some worms. Even though her vaccines are all complete, it is still possible that she can be infected. Some says that maybe it is heatstroke because of too much heat here, but we still have no idea.

My friend is planning to get another Shar Pei but of course nothing could ever replace Maggie into our hearts. She was about to turn 1 yr old this October. Her mommy brought her a very cute dress and is planning to gave her a party. But all of the plans for her suddenly shatters. We love her so much and we will gonna miss her very badly.

To all who have loved out precious Maggie, we thank you for all the care and love that you have shown her.

Farewell Maggie. We will never forget you.

Sweeney and Josh

Sweeney, a cute name for a Wheaten Terrier. This very sweet dog is owned by my all time favorite artist Josh Groban. Surprised? There was some footage of Sweeney on his Awake Live DVD. You can see it on the bonus video "Behind The Big Orange Curtain".

Josh says that it is his first time to have a dog on his tour. I can see on Josh face that he is really enjoying Sweeney's company and even claimed that Sweeney is not a dog but actually a human for him. He is Josh only friend.

Josh is my favorite artist and my passion for him, his music, his voice grew stronger now that I knew that he is a dog lover too. Sweeney is so lucky to have Josh as an owner and I can see that he is a bit spoiled brat.

Hi! I'm Chloe! My mommy just love to take pictures of me and I love it too. I just knew it when my mommy is there with her camera and I just love to pose. This is me showing my lovely stripe. This stripe is common to all Chinese Hamsters but mine is a bit emphasize because of my light color. The color gray that looks like a ring around me is adorable too. Yes I am so cute haha! Thank you.

My mommy thinks that I am really growing up so fast. But not as fast as Cirk tho. Cirk is really huge. My mommy measured his length one time, he is now 2 inches long. Pretty big huh? While me, I'm still a baby and so cute :) Aside from posing for the camera, another thing that I love to do is to eat. I really love to eat. My mommy is also giving me a treat. Bananas, apples and some other types of fruits but my favorite is chocolate. But of course, not too much. My mommy says too much chocolate is not good for me.

Allergy Recovery

It's good to know that Maggie, our precious Shar Pei, finally recovered from her allergies. Maggie got stressed out when typhoon Frank hit our place two months ago, the reason that we don't have electricity for almost two weeks. Maggie couldn't stand the heat. My friend brought her to the veterinarian for her medication. She is also advised to take some vitamin E for quicker recovery.

There are many reasons why your pet develops an allergy. It can be with the food that they eat or some chemicals or detergents that we use on them. They can also get allergies when they stressed specially among Shar Pei's that has a very strong behavior. Physically, Shar Pei's has very sensitive paws and skin texture thats why they need extra care. Proper bathing once a week or twice a week is recommended. Aside from bathing, wiping the dog with wet towel everyday can help too. The place where your dog stays also matters. Clean the area specially the carpets, rugs, curtain etc. if your dog usually stays there. Veterinary assistance is the next thing that you should do.

Allergies on dogs, specially on Shar Pei usually lasts for weeks. Proper routine pet care however can help your pets recover quickly.

Hey guys! I would like you to meet my new babies! Cirk (supposed to be pronounce as "Kirk") and Chloe my new pet hamster. Chloe is light gray in color while Cirk is much more darker and larger than her, a darker greyish brown in color. Both of them has a black stripe down the spine common to all Chinese hamsters.

This is my first time to have a hamster and I am really confused on how to take care of them. And not to mention, I am scared on touching them too.

This is their new house. We just used our old aquarium and put some wood shavings.

When I arrive from work, I say hello to them and talk to them for a while. It is really a soothing feeling and releases stress.

My nieces Gileane, Gianine and Genica just got their first pet upon moving to Australia. These Peach-Faced Lovebirds, Harry and Cleo, are really very sociable animals. At first the two birds are a bit stubborn and is always biting their daddy's hand every time he took a hold of them to bring them out of the cage and play. But after a lot of effort and training, the two birds are now calm and playful to the kids. Peach-Faced are very affectionate pets toward their owners. They often perch on their daddy's shoulder and they don't have to put them on the cage for a long time too. The birds can roam free on their living room and mingle to them.

Lucky To Have Lucky

My Sunday morning routine will never be boring anymore. Running is my passion. Together with my husband and sister in law, Sunday is our only best time to go jogging.

Last Sunday we met Lucky, a 9 months old Golden Retriever. He just move to our place together with his family. The first time I look at him I know already that he is a Golden Retriever for they are my favorite dog breed. Lucky's professional trainer told us that Lucky needs a lot of exercise because he is always joining on dog shows. He won 3 Best in The Show awards already.

Lucky is very friendly and kind to us. His trainer is glad too that we can accompany Lucky every week when we jog. Who is more happy? Of course me! It's like that I wanted to take him home haha! XD Just kiddin... I have here some more photos of lucky. Enjoy!

Maggie's Favorite Past Time

Five months old Maggie is back again now with her very cute favorite pass time picture which is of course - sleeping. Putting her to sleep is not a problem at all. As soon as she finds a perfect spot, she falls into sleep in no more than 5 minutes. Yes, that quick. The only thing we've noticed on her is that she snores like a human, sometimes louder than humans. At first we mistook that sound for growling. I guess this is because of their squashed like face.

I used to carry a digital camera every time I go out so that I can take an easy shot on just about anything that captured my attention. And most importantly, I love taking shots of our friend cats whenever I saw one in in the road or anywhere. Well, as always, cats are very sensitive to anything. They can easily know whether somebody is just staring at them, keeping an eye on them. And all of a sudden, they will flee. If you are not being careful and gentle at them, there is no chance that you can get close to them. Most of stray cats are like that, but there are others that is more likely to respond too.

So here I have two pictures of a common domestic cat that I have seen on my last week vacation at Boracay Island. Actually I have seen lots of them in the island but they are so difficult to be captured because of too much crowd. I know that they are scared though. We make them so scared.

The first image that I got here is an orange domestic cat that I found on Boracay Station 2 near Summers Place. It was raining that time and we are heading back to our hotel room when I spotted one running from the rain. I tried to call the cat (like doing some cat sound) and it seemed to be responding to me, looking at my direction and trying to find where the sound comes from. Until it found a spot, there it stops and finally I got a picture of it. The cat is still there at the small shelter that he found and waiting from the rain to subside. Of course I was the one who is on the rain so I have to go back when the rain started to get heavy.

The next image is a gray domestic cat that I have seen on our way from from vacation। It is the same with the orange cat only that it is gray. I was at already inside the bus when I saw it inside one of the store on the bus terminal. I was glad because I know that that cat has a home.

Seeing a cat is an unexplainable feeling for me. Actually I was fond of almost all of the animals or pets but I can say that cats has a very special place in my heart. I will never cease on taking pictures of them and loving them.

The Real Life Of Baby Cat

I saw this video on you tube about this cat named Lily which they called as Baby Cat. I was really amaze by the behavior of this cat towards its owner. It is seems to be a very loyal cat, intelligent and wanted to be with his owner all the time. Most of the cats just wanted to be alone but when you show affection to them they will certainly love you unconditionally.

Another thing that I've learned about Baby Cat is that there is actually a book series written by Lily's owner Tim Steffen and Susan Ann Thornton based on the real life of their pet Lily. The title of the book is "The Adventures of Baby Cat in Cherry Grove". In the story, Lily offers an exciting adventures and another point of view on this beach community called Cherry Grove which is the one we have seen on the video. I think its a pretty good book and going to have one if I had a chance.

Rescued From Typhoon Frank

Typhoon Frank, an unexpected disaster, not only left a stigma on all the residents here in Western Visayas and other parts of the country but also left many of our animal friends homeless, alone and scared.

Mike and I was at the backyard, checking around the house for possible danger brought by strong wind and heavy rain that we come to notice a bird being carried away by the storm. At first we are hesitant to get it but we saw that the bird is being thrown up many times by the wind. So we decided to get it. I was thinking that the best thing to do that time is to keep the bird until the storm is over and set it free afterwards.

We think that the bird was a Philippine Water Kingfisher, because of its long beak and duck like feet. I know that the bird doesn't want to be put inside the cage but it is much better than to be left outside the storm. So we put the bird inside the cage and provide water and food.

Two days after the storm subsides, it is finally time to go. It is a beautiful day and I know the bird is very eager to go home too. As we open the cage, we are surprised that the bird doesn't go out quickly but kinda confused as it stares at us. I said that its gonna be ok instead, and the storm is gone. The bird suddenly leaped joyfully out of the cage.

It was a very heartwarming feeling. To be able to help in time of need, no matter if it is a human or animal, brings me joy that I can never imagine.

Me and my Maxy

It was only by accident that I found my pet cat. I found her only in the streets alone and helpless. Of course I like cats. They really amazes me in all possible way. I was heart broken upon seeing her so scared, wandering without a family. So I adopted her and named her Maxy. I had no idea why I gave her that name but I feel so good adopting her. She has this deep green eyes and all black fur which is so mysterious to me. So I took her home, feed her and give her a shelter. From that moment I know we have this special bond already and I consider her as my best friend.

But her first week of stay in her new home is hard too. One day while I am not at home, our neighbors stray dog happen to enter our place and bit Maxy until she could barely move. I rushed home crying and really scared for what happened to her. I feel hopeless seeing her unable to move. I really don't want to lose her so even though I know she is dying I still talked to her, comfort her and told her that I really don't want her to go but if it is destined for her to do this then I will accept it. I held her like a baby and let her feel that I'm still here not leaving her. And then a miracle just happened. On the next day I was surprised to see her recovering from her injury and trying to live again. I was overjoyed and can't describe the joy that I've felt that time. Form that very moment I know I wanted to be with my pet cat forever. And I will take care of her. I promised her...

My cousin from UK shares me this cute video of a pig, Cinder, who is scared of stepping into the mud. Her owner noticed this when Cinder went so scared and refuses to join her other siblings play on the mud. So they decided to try and get her a tiny boots instead, see if it will work. Turns out Cinder is so happy with her new boots finally went outside and play. The owner runs a sausage company but they claimed that they will never ever slaughter Cinder. She is more of a pet to them now.

Cats ~ The Joy Of Having One

They say "A dog is a man's best friend", but for me it is definitely a cat. Having cat as a pet is not as hard as other think. I believe dogs can be a more demanding pet that cat this is merely because, according to my observation, cats are more independent compared to dogs. Cats are passionate pet especially if their human companions treated them with constant love since their young age. Although sometimes they tend to demand more attention.

Contrary to what other people might think about cats, I believe they are not harsh all the time. They too know how to play especially the young kittens. I just love to watch them play with a dangling piece of string or a yarn ball. These behavior of cats can help them develop their hunting skills. I use to tie a string with a small bouncing ball on tip of it for my pet Maxy. She loves to lie around on a piece of rug too and sometimes playing, leaping in it as if it was an imaginary prey. With other cats, Maxy love to go on wrestling with them like they never get tired. And sometimes she sends me a message that she wants to play with me when she follows me wherever I am and suddenly playing with whatever it is I'm doing. Mirrors are her favorite too. She is always stunned seeing another cat on the mirror not realizing that it is her figure. Spots produced by a flashlight is another one that she wanted to chase.

Watching my pet play gives me inner piece that I can't explain and of course releases tension during the day. Just running my fingers in her fur relieves stress and seeing her happy makes me happy and contented too.

My First Shot Of Maggie D

Two months old Maggie quietly sat on the living room floor as she watched every visitor roam across the room. Watching her mommy closely in a distance, she remains on guard even at a young age, glancing on every strange movements. It is her first time to be left on the open with strangers. Maggie, whose eyes fixed in her mommy wherever she goes, is always protective and observant. As for my best friend, who is Maggie's mom, being patient and loving to Maggie are one the the important things that should never be forgotten.

Chinese Shar Pei is considered as one of the world's rarest dog breeds. The breed originated from China and they are also known as Chinese Fighting Dog. I somehow can't describe what I felt when I saw Maggie for the first time. At first I was hesitant. I mistook her for a Pug because of her looks specially her wrinkles but later I realized that she isn't a Pug. She is much bigger than a Pug. Shar Pei's has many wrinkles but there is a tendency that these wrinkles will disappear as they mature. Her coat is off-standing and rough to touch. Her cute ears are small and fall forward while her deep set eyes shows how protective she is.

Behaving Like Her Mommy Told Her

Maggie's mom who is my best friend is so happy to have her. It is only Maggie's first week on her new home but she seems to know her mommy even for a short period of time. Later that day when she is kinda used to other people, everyone is touching and playing with her but of course we always warned our friends to remain gentle at her.

That day we all welcome Maggie D as a new member of the family.

Cuddly Benjie

Visiting my friends home is now a lot more meaningful than ever. I love almost all kinds of animals but dogs and cats are my favorite. I got a chance to meet a 6 months old, half Maltese half Japanese Spitz dog. His name is Benjie.

Benjie's mom is pure breed Japanese Spitz named Timo while his dad is a cross-breed of Japanese Spitz and Maltese too named Swooshie. Benjie has a pure white fluffy fur which makes him so huggable. Benjie loves to eat rice and corned beef and his favorite pass time is slightly strange which is taking a shower. His owner makes sure he is always clean and well groomed. That's why I really love to hug him.

We took Benjie for a walk around the neighborhood that afternoon. Benjie is very obedient and kind to people. Like all Maltese, he is a very passionate and loving and is easy to train. Another unique thing about Benjie is that his left eye color is different from his right eye which is gray in color.

Well talk more about Benjie next time :) Oh I miss him already...

World Environment Day ~ June 5, 2008

Established by the United Nations General Assembly, World Environment Day is celebrated every June 5. Hosted by different countries every year, the whole world will be more aware of what is happening to our environment right now. With the theme "CO₂, Kick the Habit! Towards a Low Carbon Economy", New Zealand is the country that's gonna host the event this year.

There are a lot of things that we can do to celebrate World Environment Day. As a matter of fact many Filipinos are getting more and more aware of the effects of pollution in our environment. Here in the Philippines, to mark the World Environment Day 2008, the Children For Nature Movement shall hold a series of seminars on environmental management, such as water conservation, solid waste management, sewerage and sanitation, which shall be followed by a film show (Al Gore's "Inconvenient Truth") and a clean-up campaign along the streets to encourage people to help keep the streets clean and free of trash. Also the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in partnership with the governments of Australia, Japan, Norway, and the United Kingdom, and the Asia Pacific Partnership for Clean Development and Climate (APP) will host the Asia Clean Energy Forum- the premiere platform for exchanging experiences and forging new partnerships to act on clean energy opportunities in Asia. The event will bring together a diverse group of stakeholders that includes leading policy makers, finance professionals, civil society members, and private sector experts.

In Malabon Zoo, Manila, they have prepared something special for this celebration. The first Snake Temple in the Philippines was constructed on Malabon Zoo with over 50 species of snakes in there. That includes wild and endangered variety too. Malabon Zoo serves as the protection center for exotic animals confiscated from smugglers and illegal collectors. The zoo is a home of many kinds of animals specially endangered ones. It seems that the animals are celebration too because just last Monday, three Tiger Cub was born on the zoo and a Yellow Burmese Python lay almost 50 eggs which is normally up to 15 eggs only. Their celebration of the World Environmental Day become more special because of this. This Snake Temple on Malabon Zoo will soon be openi to public.

Nothing brings me joy but to see an animal happy whatever it is. I believe that they have to deserve to be cared, loved and respected. Because of this, I decided to create a new blog which centers on animals, pets, wildlife, animal rights and many more... all about animals.

This World Environment Day why don't we consider what we can do for our environment. Besides this is our home too. Whatever we do to it, the effect will always comes back to us. We must stop being selfish and self-centered, neglecting and being blind not just for our future but for the future of all.

Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS)

The PAWS or The Philippine Animal Welfare Society is a Philippine organization whose mission is to protect and prevent cruelty against animals. Part of the goals of the organization are support shelter, veterinary services, education and public awareness, counseling and investigation and legal supports. A lot of Filipinos didn't know that PAWS was founded since 1954 by a British educator residing in the Philippines. His name is Muriel Jay. They pick up stray from the streets and give medical services to injured animals. That is the start of the mission of PAWS. While PAWS are actively saving lives in the country, the government remains not ready for it. PAWS is fighting hard even though Dog-eating and other atrocities involving animals are becoming rampant. But they did not stop until on February 11, 1998 Phil. Pres. Fidel V. Ramos signed the Animal Welfare Act of 1998 also known as Republic Act 8485).

Now PAWS has a animals rehabilitation center called PARC (PAWS Animal Rehabilitation Center) and is ready for operation. The new animal refuge is located at the back of the Ateneo de Manila University, on the highest portion of a hilly 5,000 sqm. Meralco property in Katipunan Valley, Loyola Heights, Quezon City. This shelter gives home to unwanted dogs and cats which is lost and abandoned by their owners. Adoption program is also done in here to help the animals have a new home. A largest butterfly garden can also be seen in here. PARC is not one of the field trips destination here in the country where students are taught to love and care for animals, as well as nature.

Through PARC, PAWS can help enhance the awareness of Filipinos in animal welfare. Indeed we should all know that not only humans need care and love, but as well as all the creatures here in this world.
